Greek Super League coaching sackings made headlines as Giorgos Petrakis and his father Giannis, coaches at Larissa and Panetolikos respectively, were dismissed within hours after their teams suffered crushing defeats. The 37-year-old Giorgos was the first to lose his job after Larissa endured a shock 5-2 home loss to local rivals Volos.
Shortly after, 66-year-old Giannis Petrakis was sacked by Panetolikos following a humiliating 6-0 away defeat to Levadiakos — the worst in the 99-year history of the Agrinio-based club.
Larissa, champions of Greece in 1988, currently sit 12th in the 14-team Super League 1 table, with Panetolikos just below in 13th place. These sackings underscore the intense pressures and volatility in Greek football’s top flight, where a combined 11 goals conceded in two matches sealed the fate of both coaches in one of the rare family coaching pairs at this level.
