Cricket legend Diana Edulji hailed the Indian women’s cricket team’s latest triumph as a turning point for the sport, calling it “our 1983 moment” — a reference to the men’s team’s World Cup victory that transformed Indian cricket forever.
Speaking after India’s remarkable performance, Edulji said the team’s grit and composure under pressure had “redefined women’s cricket in India,” adding that the players had inspired a new generation of girls to dream big.
“This win is about belief,” she said. “The 1983 men’s team showed India could be world champions — this women’s team has done the same for young girls across the country.”
Edulji, who captained India in the 1970s and 1980s, praised the side’s discipline, team spirit, and adaptability. She also urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure the players receive long-term support, both financially and structurally.
“The momentum must not stop here,” she emphasized. “It’s time to strengthen the domestic setup, invest in training, and give women’s cricket the recognition it deserves.”
