Starting October 12, 2025, UAE travellers to Europe will benefit from the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES), set to replace traditional passport stamping with fast, automated biometric checks using facial recognition and fingerprints.

The EES digitally records travellers’ entry and exit dates, locations, and biometric data, improving security and streamlining border control for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period in Schengen countries. This eliminates the need for manual passport stamps and helps better enforce travel limits.

UAE residents likely already have biometric passports with embedded chips storing personal data, allowing seamless processing at European border kiosks. For visa-required travellers, fingerprints and facial data collected during visa issuance will expedite identity verification. Visa-free UAE passport holders will provide fingerprints once, on their first trip after system launch, with subsequent visits requiring only a quick face scan.

By 2026, the EES will be operational across all Schengen land, sea, and air borders, offering UAE travellers faster, more secure, and predictable border crossings, reducing wait times and errors
