Renowned Indian bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman has passed away at the age of 42. He suffered a fatal heart attack during a minor shoulder surgery at Fortis Hospital in Amritsar on October 9, 2025. Despite the procedure being routine, he experienced a cardiac arrest and could not be revived.
Ghuman was a trailblazer in the fitness community, known for being the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilder. He won the Mr. India title in 2009 and was the first Indian to earn an IFBB pro card. In 2013, he was selected by Arnold Schwarzenegger to represent his health products brand in Asia.
Beyond bodybuilding, Ghuman made significant strides in the film industry. He appeared in several Bollywood films, including Tiger 3, Marjaavaan, and Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans. His role in Tiger 3 alongside Salman Khan garnered him widespread recognition .
The news of his untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the fitness and film communities. Salman Khan, his co-star in Tiger 3, expressed his grief on social media, stating, “Rest in peace praa” Political leaders from Punjab also mourned his loss, praising his discipline and contributions to the state’s pride .
Ghuman’s sudden death has raised concerns about heart health among bodybuilders. Experts suggest that extreme training regimens, supplement use, and potential steroid consumption may contribute to cardiac risks, even in individuals with seemingly healthy lifestyles.
