Abu Dhabi Zayed Airport digital wallet initiative marks a significant step towards cashless travel and seamless digital payments for inbound travelers. Abu Dhabi Airports has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Al Hail Holding to pilot a regulated digital wallet at Zayed International Airport, aiming to transform spending across the airport ecosystem.
This collaboration explores next-generation payment technologies, including stablecoin and digital asset transactions, directly supporting the UAE’s Digital Economy Strategy and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. Abu Dhabi Airports will provide the operational framework, while Al Hail Holding focuses on governance and regulatory aspects, with technology partner Xare driving the platform development.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, emphasized that airports are evolving into hubs for seamless digital commerce. “Our partnership will pilot cashless payment solutions that enhance traveller convenience, sustainability, and financial accessibility, positioning UAE as a leader in digital economy innovation.”
The project also aims to integrate artificial intelligence and sustainable infrastructure to boost operational efficiency and environmental performance. Analysts view this initiative as a clear sign of Abu Dhabi’s ambition to lead the region in smart travel and fintech advancements.
