Etihad Delhi fog delay affected passengers on Monday morning as dense fog across northern India disrupted air traffic at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Etihad Airways flight EY219 from Delhi to Abu Dhabi was among the services delayed after visibility dropped below operational limits, forcing departures and arrivals to slow.
Fog disrupts early-morning operations
Airport officials reported that visibility in Delhi fell below the minimum required for normal operations, prompting a shift to low‑visibility procedures on the runways. This meant air traffic controllers had to prioritise landings for flights already in Indian airspace, while holding departing aircraft on the ground until conditions improved.
Dense fog has covered parts of the National Capital Region since midnight, and forecasts indicate that poor visibility could continue into the afternoon, with similar disruptions also reported at other north Indian airports as winter conditions intensify.
Etihad’s response and passenger support
Etihad confirmed that EY219’s delay was due to adverse weather and apologised to affected travellers, stressing that safety and comfort of passengers and crew remain the top priority. The airline said it is sharing real‑time updates with customers via SMS and email and advised passengers to review and update their contact details through its “contact me” channels.
Travellers have been urged to monitor Etihad’s customer support platforms for revised departure times and any changes to connecting flights. With several airlines warning of possible delays from Delhi, Amritsar and Lucknow during early‑morning departures this week, passengers are encouraged to allow extra time and stay informed about evolving schedules.
