Iran Warns US Bases and Assets Are ‘Legitimate Targets’ if Attacked

Iran Warns US Bases

Iran warns US bases, facilities, and assets in the region would be considered “legitimate targets” if the United States proceeds with military action, according to a letter from Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations.

Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s envoy to the UN, addressed the letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council president, highlighting the dangers of escalating military tensions.

The letter referenced a recent social media statement by US President Donald Trump, suggesting the possible use of UK military bases, including one on an Indian Ocean island, if Iran refuses to negotiate a nuclear deal.

Iravani condemned the statement as “belligerent” and warned of catastrophic consequences for regional peace and international security. He urged the Security Council to press the US to immediately halt its “unlawful threats of force.”

While reaffirming Iran’s commitment to diplomatic solutions and transparency regarding its nuclear program, Iravani emphasized that any military aggression would prompt Iran to target all hostile US assets in the region defensively.

President Trump has escalated military deployments in the Middle East amid accusations against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, despite Tehran’s insistence that it does not seek a nuclear weapon. Trump recently set a 15-day deadline for Iran to reach a deal, reiterating threats of military intervention.

The warning comes amid ongoing indirect talks in Geneva between US envoys and Iranian diplomats, aimed at reviving stalled negotiations. Previous attempts collapsed after Israel’s strikes on Iranian sites last year, which led to a 12-day conflict involving US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
