Rory McIlroy DP World India Championship participation marks a new chapter for the five-time major champion as he aims to refocus attention on Team Europe’s historic Ryder Cup victory rather than the abusive fan behaviour faced in the US. Speaking ahead of his debut at the DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club, McIlroy expressed pride in the European squad’s success and desire to shift the narrative.
Joining McIlroy are Ryder Cup teammates Luke Donald, Tommy Fleetwood, and Shane Lowry, as well as captain Luke Donald, who recently earned praise for his leadership through back-to-back Ryder Cup wins. McIlroy lauded Donald’s captaincy and expressed aspirations to one day lead the European Ryder Cup team himself, hopefully long after his playing career.
McIlroy’s return to competitive golf in India follows a phenomenal 2025 season that included major victories and multiple wins on the DP World Tour. The DP World India Championship offers McIlroy an opportunity to consolidate his position atop the Race to Dubai standings before the final season playoffs.
