As the Sabarimala gold heist recovery unfolds, all eyes are on the SIT to deliver transparency and accountability for one of the most prominent temple-related theft cases in recent memory.

A significant breakthrough has emerged in the Sabarimala gold heist recovery, as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) operating out of Kerala recovered more than 400 grams of allegedly stolen gold from a jewellery shop in Bellari, Karnataka. The gold is believed to have been passed from the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potti, to his associate at the outlet. Alongside the gold, investigators also seized several gold coins and approximately ₹2 lakh in cash from Potti’s residence in Thiruvananthapuram.
The investigation has now broadened into a multi-state exercise, with searches underway in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, as authorities trace the flow of the valuables and map the network behind the heist. Authorities have already arrested Potti and a former senior official of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), with further detentions anticipated as the probe gains momentum.
The case centres on allegations that gold-clad copper plates and other elements earmarked for renovation works at the revered Sabarimala Temple were diverted, misused or sold. What began as missing donations and discrepancies in records has now evolved into a full-scale inquiry involving temple artifacts, contractors and officials alike.
This moment of recovery marks a turning point in the Sabarimala case. Investigators believe the seized gold may provide key evidence in mapping how the heist was carried out, how proceeds were transferred and who enabled the misappropriation. As the Sabarimala gold heist recovery unfolds, all eyes are on the SIT to deliver transparency and accountability for one of the most prominent temple-related theft cases in recent memory.
