Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has announced a major initiative aimed at transforming the emirate’s urban landscape. The comprehensive Sharjah urban upgrades plan focuses on developing public parks, improving infrastructure, and expanding green spaces across key neighborhoods.
The ruler emphasized that the project seeks to improve the quality of life for residents while preserving Sharjah’s cultural and environmental identity. “Our goal is to make every neighborhood in Sharjah more livable, greener, and safer for families,” Sheikh Dr. Sultan said during the announcement.
Under this initiative, Sharjah Municipality will oversee extensive renovation of older districts, including Al Qadisiyah, Al Jazzat, and Al Ghuwaifat. The upgrades will involve new road networks, improved drainage systems, and the removal of abandoned or unsafe structures. Authorities have also prioritized flood-prone areas such as Martyrs’ Square for immediate infrastructure enhancement.
A key component of the Sharjah urban upgrades is the emirate-wide tree-planting drive. Sheikh Dr. Sultan highlighted that millions of mature trees and saplings will be distributed to all municipalities from local nurseries. These efforts aim to strengthen environmental sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, and offer more shaded spaces for residents. “We produce millions of biological growth stimulants and provide fully-grown trees ready for immediate planting,” he added.
The new urban strategy also includes modernizing street signage and beautifying public spaces to create a unified visual identity across Sharjah. Family parks, pedestrian walkways, and green zones will be developed to encourage outdoor recreation and community gatherings.
Authorities reaffirmed that the upgrades will roll out in stages, prioritizing areas that require immediate attention. Construction teams have already begun surveying targeted neighborhoods, ensuring minimal disruption to residents during the redevelopment phase.
With sustainability at its core, this initiative reinforces Sharjah’s long-term commitment to environmental care and urban excellence. “Every family in Sharjah will have access to safe, comfortable, and beautiful surroundings,” Sheikh Dr. Sultan assured.
As these ambitious upgrades take shape, Sharjah continues to strengthen its position as one of the UAE’s most forward-thinking and environmentally conscious emirates.
